1. Wyatt Earp was an American lawman and gambler who played an important role in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. He later became a city marshal of Tombstone, Arizona.
2. Born on March 19, 1848, in Monmouth, Illinois, Wyatt Earp was one of seven children. His family later moved to Pella, Iowa.
3. In his early life, Earp worked as a farmhand and later joined the Union Army during the Civil War, although he did not see combat. After the war, he spent time as a stagecoach driver and prospector before becoming a gambler in Kansas City.
4. Wyatt Earp moved to Dodge City, Kansas, in 1876 where he served as a deputy marshal and helped establish law and order. He then moved on to Tombstone, Arizona, in 1879 where he became a marshal known for his involvement in the O.K. Corral gunfight.
5. Earp’s brothers Morgan and Virgil were also lawmen in Dodge City and later Tombstone. Together, they were known as the Earp brothers and played a significant role in western history.
