4. As a strong advocate for education and innovation, Jefferson founded the University of Virginia in 1819, emphasizing its role as an institution dedicated to freedom of thought and inquiry.
5. In addition to his political career, Jefferson was also an accomplished farmer and wine connoisseur, cultivating a variety of crops at Monticello and developing techniques for producing quality wines in the American climate.
6. He was known for his love of literature and collected thousands of books throughout his life, establishing one of the largest private libraries in America at the time.
7. Despite owning slaves himself, Jefferson opposed slavery and believed it to be a violation of human rights; however, he did not take action to free his own slaves during his lifetime.
8. Upon his death in 1826, Jefferson left behind a vast estate that included over 600 acres, numerous buildings, and over 200 slaves, making him one of the wealthiest Americans of his time.
