1) Herbert George Wells was an English writer who is best known for his science fiction novels, including “The War of the Worlds” and “The Time Machine.” He also wrote non-fiction works on socialism and politics. 2) Wells was born in Bromley, Kent, England in 1866. His father was a gardener who encouraged his son’s love of reading. 3) Wells married twice: to his childhood sweetheart, Amy Catherine Robbins, in 1894; and later to the novelist Jane (nee Alison) Neuhaus Wells in 1914. He had two sons with each wife. 4) Wells was a prolific writer who produced over 20 novels, as well as essays, short stories, and articles on various topics including science, politics, and philosophy.
